A Two-Day Short Course Workshop Objectives
∙ Getting acquainted with different types of threads and their uses.
∙ Getting acquainted with different types of needles and their uses.
∙ How to coordinate between needles and threads to create a suitable product. Curriculum: Day One
∙ Introduction (5 minutes): Presenting a real-life model of bookmarks and the steps of execution.
∙ Explaining the tools and how to hold the needle and thread.
∙ Practicing the chain stitch + the fill stitch.
∙ Stitch symbols in any pattern:
∙ Fill stitch symbol, Chain stitch symbol, Half-column stitch symbol, Slip stitch for finishing.
∙ Practicing the 3 stitches: Teaching the starting stitch, then presenting the bookmark pattern to be made.
∙ Repeat 6 rows, then repeat 6 rows again. 11 chains, the 11th stitch going up to create the fill stitch.
∙ First row: 10 chain stitches, and the 11th stitch going up to create the fill stitch in the second section, repeated for 6 rows.
∙ On row 7: make 20 stitches going up to create the half-column stitch, repeated for 6 rows, and so on, with a full explanation of the pattern. Day Two
∙ Begin working the pattern through to the completion of the bookmark, with a clear explanation of how to fasten off, weave in the ends, and add fringe to the bookmark. Tools Used:
∙ Crochet hook, a skein of wool yarn. With the instructor / Engineer Manal El-Sarraf, extensive experience in the field of crochet, various stitches, and the aesthetic dimension of handcraft work.
