The AlMultaqa Orchestra brings together a remarkable group of musicians who create a
groundbreaking sound uniting Sudanese Afro-Arab traditions with contemporary influences.
Their music blends the oud from the Middle East, with its soulful and expressive tone; the kora
from Mali, shimmering with bright and intricate melodies; and the adungo from Uganda and
South Sudan, glowing with rhythmic clarity. These ancestral voices are carried by the driving
energy of Afro percussions, the warm, layered tones of the balafon, and the powerful pulse of
the drums. Enriching this foundation are the steady depth of the bass guitar and the earthy
resonance of the acoustic guitar.
Directed by renowned oud musician Ahmad Shamma, each performance becomes a cultural
journey that builds bridges of communication between different languages, where music and
words flow together to tell stories that transcend borders.
